Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock), a well-known author of fantasy adventure novels, is going through a personal and professional mid-life crisis. Even though her publicist, Beth (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), is breathing down her neck to do more, she is lonely, despondent, and out of ideas to write another book. Loretta begrudgingly joins her handsome and beefy cover model Alan (Channing Tatum) on a book tour, but she is soon abducted by a wealthy businessman, Abigail Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe), to decode a buried treasure he believes is genuine, and the only person who can help him uncover it is Loretta. Alan sets off on a trip to save the lady he secretly loves, despite having no survival abilities.
It’s an old story (about a treasure search), but the way directors Aaron and Adam Nee tell it is a little different. We, the viewers, are transported and dragged into an experience that is wild, occasionally dangerous, and most of the time hilarious and childlike as soon as the location changes to the jungle. And that’s pretty much the high point of this oddball adventure, which benefits greatly from a cast of A-listers who provide strong performances despite being overqualified and mature for roles like this.
It’s obvious that they’re all having a lot of fun with their onscreen avatars, but they don’t seem to believe in what they’re supposed to perform. Thankfully, there are more genuine locales than fancy effects, which is always a plus in these days of computer visuals that aren’t quite real. The first half of the film features several laugh-out-loud moments as well as an amazing cameo by Brad Pitt as the swashbuckling ex-Navy Seal-turned-CIA agent Jack Trainer. There are a few surprises here, but as the second act progresses, the subpar script starts to fall apart. Although the ridiculous love between Bullock and Tatum is completely unpersuasive, it is entertaining, and the scenic cinematography is pleasing to the eye.
Sandra Bullock’s portrayal of a middle-aged novelist is genuine and powerful, and Tatum looks every inch the gorgeous hunk who aspires to be more than a cover model. As a team, the two actors perform admirably. Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s aggressive publicist act becomes irritating after a while, and she, like the rest of the few character performers, is filled with clichés. The character of Daniel Radcliffe as an obsessive businessman willing to go to any length to locate the buried treasure is difficult to fathom. Nonetheless, he appears to be charming and attractive.
Overall, “The Lost City” is a competent action-adventure comedy with plenty of star power and stunning vistas. This should suffice to qualify it as a “one-time watch.”
The Lost City premieres worldwide on Friday, April 8, 2022. As with many of its original movies, Theatre is dropping all movies on the show’s release date. Besides this OTT release, some notorious websites leaked the HD versions of the The Lost City movie online. movierulz is the main responsible for releasing the pirated version of a movies.
However, this is not the first time, a movie has been leaked or surfaced online for free watch. As almost all movies becomes the victim to this mess, it’s very sad. In the past, many strict action and restrictions were taken against these sites, but even after getting blocked, the sites rebound elevating piracy and illegal download options. The cyber cell needs to take serious action regarding this. This really needs to be stopped with hard steps.
