The iconic actress Maheshwari Amma, better known by her stage name KPAC Lalitha, died on Tuesday, February 22 at the age of 74 in a hospital in Kochi, Kerala, according to tragic news that has hit the screens.
Lalitha, who was born on February 25, 1947 in the Alappuzha area, began her career as a stage performer before moving into film. The actress had established herself as one of the best actors in South Indian film.
In addition to Malayalam films, she has appeared in Tamil films such as Kaatru Veliyidai, Kireedam, Paramasivan, Ullam Ketkume, Alaipayuthey, and Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, to mention a few. She also appeared in Vijay Sethupathi’s Maamanithan and RJ Balaji’s Veetla Visheshanga, both of which are still in the works.
Lalitha had appeared in over 550 films and received two National Awards. The actress was best known for her portrayals of mothers. With the Malayalam film Kootukudumbam, she made her acting debut.
She was married to Malayalam filmmaker Bharathan, and she is survived by her son Siddharth, who is also a filmmaker and actor in Malayalam cinema, and her daughter Sreekutty.
